Filmore’s company, MEDkeen Solutions, provides healthcare consulting and operational improvement; government contracting support and research initiatives; and technology and innovation development, including AI-enabled solutions, across healthcare, government and technology sectors.

That’s a fancy way of saying she is a systems thinker who tends to see the big picture.

Susan Bitar, a professor of health services management in Florida, has known Filmore for upward of 10 years and appreciates her innovation and resilience. 

Even though Filmore’s parents were both military service members, there seemed to be one path she knew she’d never take: joining the military. Her parents just wanted her to go to school, she says, and so she became a licensed practical nurse. She didn’t complete her bachelor’s degree right away. Instead, she went to work. But she had so many questions about the administrative side of clinical practice that she eventually found herself at 91��Ƭ�� pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration.

The University’s generous transfer credit policy worked to Filmore’s advantage. She was able to transfer credits from her LPN program, which saved her time on her bachelor’s degree; she completed it in about two years. After that, she grew her career, gained breadth of experience and launched MEDkeen Solutions at the end of 2015.

Juggling goals and responsibilities has become second nature for Filmore. In addition to running MEDkeen Solutions, she serves as a board member for the Space Coast chapter of Women in Defense, mentors two interns through her company and is writing a book about the Post Visit Gap.

“I’m not a complainer,” she says. “I remember one time someone making a comment, like, ‘That’s a lot.’ But at the time, I didn’t see it as a lot. I just saw it as what I had to do.”

Although Filmore never served in the military, her role as a military spouse, and her work in research and development with government contractors and organizations supporting the Department of Defense, means she circles that world in ways that surprise even her.

“When I started my company, people would discuss government contracts,” she says. “I was like, ‘I’m not doing that. I’ll just stay over here in healthcare. And then, next thing I know, I’m in meetings [about] Homeland Security, and I’m learning about drones and protection.”

Filmore does not hold direct contracts with the Department of Homeland Security or Department of Defense, but her leadership roles with (where she is vice president of programming) and (where her board duties centered on STEM initiatives, member engagement and community outreach) has earned her a seat at the table concerning conversations about AI, resilience and national security.

Filmore, however, surprises only herself with this development. As she often says, “I don’t put myself in one basket.”

If there’s a quality Filmore values as much as a stoic work ethic, it may just be giving back. She seems to genuinely delight in mentoring her interns and working with young people curious about STEM fields.

One such person is Passion Davis, an intern at MEDkeen Solutions who is studying health services management at a Florida college. She is also a mother who works full time — a situation not unlike the one Filmore found herself in when she began her career.

For Davis, Filmore’s genuine care about her access to both opportunity and education has had a profound influence. 

In 2026, Filmore was recognized as a UOPX Alumni Luminary for her work as an entrepreneur. But she could just as well have earned the honor for her commitment to improving her community.

“Ultimately, Khalilah is driven by a grander vision,” Bitar says. “She knows that by properly leading healthcare professionals and thoroughly inspiring student interns, they are directly improving the quality of care that countless future patients will receive and benefit from.”

As Filmore’s career illustrates, helping others can look many different ways. It can take the form of bedside care or technology-enabled solutions. It can look like mentorship. It can be taking a board position. But the downstream effects can change the world.
